In a disappointing move, the Obama administration has left polar bears poorly protected from one of the gravest threats to this endangered species – global warming.
Pandering to Big Oil, the outgoing Bush/Cheney administration limited vital protections for polar bears from global warming and oil and gas development, essentially denying polar bears the help they need to survive some of the greatest threats to their existence.
Yet global warming is at the very heart of the threat to the polar bear. Scientists say that global warming and habitat loss could drive America's polar bears to extinction by the end of the century.
Unfortunately, Interior Secretary Salazar decided to back the status quo, rather than bring meaningful change to how this endangered species is treated. Tell Secretary Salazar how disappointed you are in his decision to support the Bush-era rule – and urge him to review the science and protect endangered polar bears from global warming.
